Summary
I have over eight (8) years of experience in a variety of roles in the information technology field; including experience in direct management and project management roles, as well as business analysis and project management in information technology and academic fields. I have significant expertise in requirements gathering, process engineering, analyzing and designing business solutions.
I most enjoy creating systems that predictably produce high-quality results; whether in the form of a document, a policy, a technology, or a combination thereof. At heart, I am a resourceful problem solver and a talented communicator.
Business analysis
The term, “business analyst” covers a wide range of skill sets and industries. The bulk of my experience has been in the small and medium business, higher-education and information technology (IT) markets. The following is a partial list of business documents I have created:
- Technical and consumer user manuals
- Communication plans
- Support SLAs and communication SLAs
- Gap analysis
- RASIC / RACI / RAM
- Presentations for C-level executives
- MS Project
- MS Visio
- MS Sharepoint
While I have hands-on experience with developing a wide range of business documents; my skill is not so much in the document generation itself, as it is my ability to ask the right questions, synthesize large amounts of novel data, and produce tailored products that solve problems.
Project Management
As a project manager, I have several years of experience working on project ranging from long-term half-million dollar IT projects that required full project management treatment to short-term projects that could be managed “on the back of a napkin.” I have managed projects in information technology (IT), health care, business operations and academia. In each case, I have used the proper level of planning and detail to ensure project success without undue administrative overhead. While every project is different, here are some of the tools I have used to manage expectations and ensure accurate communication:
- Work Breakdown Structure
- Project plan
- Communications plan
- Risk Register
- Issue tracker
- Site drawings
- Project Schedule
- Checklists
Business development
- Request For Proposal (RFP) creation – written the scopes for several RFPs for high-profile equipment and services for local city government, for over a million dollar contracts. This required a extensive requirements gathering.
- Proposal development – wrote a large portion of a winning proposal that resulted in a multi-year multi-million dollar contract to administer the data center and network operations for Detroit Public Schools. Also, provided research and analysis to other technical writers on the team to assist them in their portions.
- Client management life-cycle development– To improve client relations for a managed services firm; developed and implemented a life-cycle which was tied to contract signing. This incorporated checklists, feedback, executive reports and automated alerts to account managers. This was fully integrated into our CRM software. The result of which was simultaneously, greater client satisfaction and reduced back office workload.
- Market and Technology Research – In order to speak competently and confidently with clients and colleagues, and to respond appropriately to new opportunities I stay abreast of new technologies and market trends. To do this I maintain access to Gartner and Lynda.com. As well, I stay connected to peers through traditional networking, philanthropic organizations and “new media.”
